A Check-up, another 400 miles rinse & repeat in 2 months

Last week I was back in Pittsburgh for another clinic appointment, and as I had hoped – everything is still going well. We did another ultrasound and it still is a bit narrow, so the RIs aren’t normal but as Dr. Soltyce (aka Kyle) pointed out to my doc, in many cases, secondary arteries develop and will naturally increase the flow of blood to an organ where it is needed. The body finds a way. Hey! Just like the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park! Kewl!

I’ve been curios too as to why Dr Starzl used the Mercedes incision, or more technically:

a bilateral subcostal incision with an upper midline extension to the xiphoid

and I am coming up dry so far, but suffice it to say that I would not question it since he performed the first LTX in Denver back in 1963. I could hazard all kinds of wrong guesses and I am still going to try and find a bit more info on it, but I did find a good article , and added the link to my links page. I have to say that I am glad we are on a sit back and observe stance, and that the docs tend to think it will correct itself in the next 6 months or so. I’m not too keen on trying to stretch the thing out again, and I definitely don’t want to go in for more surgery. Not to say that I would opt-out, but I’m happy; very happy actually; with my progress and how well I am feeling.

Having been cleared to go back to work full-time too is a big step. I still have to stay off the road on my mtn bike for a while, so the rollers will have to do. Besides, I guess I can always watch crazy mtn bike videos on youtube on my new MacBook Pro. (hehehehehe)
